Student Receives Garden Club of America Award

Karalyn Rutkowski, a standout student known for excelling both academically and athletically, has been awarded a $3,000 Summer Environmental Studies Award by the Garden Club of America. The prestigious grant will support her independent research this summer in the Cunningham-Minnick Lab at the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station.

Hiram student conducts research at Hiram Field Station

Since all Field Station summer student workers are required to do a research project, the Animal Care & Husbandry department produces a plethora of interesting research posters that are presented at both the College's Celebration of Experiential Learning in September and the Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitator's Association Conference in November. One research project that spanned departments and will continue to be an on-going project at the Field Station is the Snake Fungal Disease (SFD) research led by senior, Claire Partin.

Hiram Student Presents at Vernal Poolooza Conference

On Friday, March 8, Logan Griffin, animal care student worker and salamander researcher at the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station, presented his research on unisexual salamanders, also known as unisexual Ambystoma at the 3-day Vernal Poolooza professional conference in Hocking Hills. Logan was the youngest presenter at this conference, and he was asked to present his research due to the unique nature of it since not a lot of research has been done on these unique specie
