Hiram College

Four Hiram College students were selected to present their research on the field of wildlife rehabiltation and education at the recent Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitators Association Conference.

Recently, a group of Hiram College integrative exercise science students traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine's (MWACSM) annual conference, and to compete in the student Exercise Science Quiz Bowl Competition. Hiram College won the Midwest division of the competition for the second year in a row, and will now be moving on to Nationals.

Fourteen students were inducted as Hiram College Student Ambassadors by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations on Friday, September 8. They were honored at the organization's annual pinning ceremony. The Student Ambassador program is an opportunity to connect current students with alumni as well as develop both personal and professional development skills through varying events and opportunities. Student Ambassadors receive exclusive networking opportunities with influential and successful Hiram alumni and trustees, develop a strong understanding of philanthropy and how it affects the lives of all Hiram students, and build community within Hiram's extensive network.This group of ambassadors joins the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at campus events, bringing philanthropic awareness to their fellow students. Informal recruiting for spring 2024 will occur this fall. Formal recruiting for the 2024-2025 academic year begins in March, 2024.

Hiram College is pleased to announce the Dean's List for the Spring 2023 semester. Dean's List recognition is awarded each semester to students who, during the semester, complete 12 or more hours of graded coursework at Hiram College with a semester grade point average of 3.6

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, celebrates students who are serving as circle (chapter) presidents. Students who serve as circle presidents are leaders amongst leaders. Members of ODK must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class and embrace the Society's ideals. They also must demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars of campus life celebrated by ODK: academics and research, athletics, service to campus and community, communications, and creative and performing arts. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.

Alpha Society is one of Hiram's highest academic honors. Membership is limited to students who have completed 12 or more hours of graded coursework at Hiram College and whose cumulative grade point average is 3.75 or better.

Hiram's annual Celebration of Excellence commemorates the academic achievements of our students, their service to the College, and dedication to the larger community. The accomplishments recognized encompass every part of campus life and signify the positive and lasting impact these students have made on the College.

Students initiated into the Society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Recently, Hiram College graduating seniors were inducted into the James Jesse Turner Society. The J.J. Turner Society is named in honor of James Jesse Turner, professor of Biology, 1904-1950, who was a thorough biologist and a versatile teacher. Professor Turner helped establish the national reputation of Hiram College for excellence in the sciences. Membership in the J.J. Turner Society is granted to all graduates of Hiram College who majored or minored in biology or who have gone on to advanced study and/or careers in the biological sciences and medicine. Additionally, membership is granted to all senior biology, biochemistry, biomedical humanities, and neuroscience majors and minors.

Five Hiram students placed in the Echo Student Literary Competition. Each year, students currently enrolled at Bethany College, Heidelberg University, Hiram College Marietta College, University of Mount Union, and Muskingum University are encouraged to participate and be judged in three categories: poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction.

Hiram College hosted an Evening of Hiram Writers where talented student writers read their fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. Selected winners from the Barbara Thompson Award for Short Fiction, Lindsay-Crane Contest in Creative Nonfiction, and the Vachel Lindsay Poetry Contest shared excerpts from their awarded work.

Hiram students were challenged during the annual ideabuild! competition, hosted by the Burton D. Morgan Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College.
